1. Data controller and contact
The Météo app is published by SmartApps. For any question about this policy, personal data or the exercise of your rights, you can write to smartapps@myyahoo.com.
This policy covers the Météo mobile app, the public website meteo.smartapps.ovh and the public weather APIs used by the app.
2. Simple summary
- Météo lets you search for and save favorite cities to display the weather.
- The app does not request precise GPS location in the current Android/iOS manifests.
- Favorite cities and certain settings are stored locally on your device.
- The Symfony backend queries the weather provider for the requested city; the app does not contact this provider directly.
- Technical services may be used for statistics, advertising and in-app purchases.
3. Data processed
| Data | Examples | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Cities and weather | Searched city name, country, technical location key, approximate latitude/longitude provided by the weather provider, time zone, forecasts and alerts. | User input, Météo backend and weather provider. |
| Local settings | Language, favorite cities, selected city, ad removal status, number of launches. | The app's local storage on the device. |
| Technical data | IP address visible to the server, timestamp, device type, app version, language, technical errors and server logs. | Network requests, Symfony server and technical services. |
| Audience measurement | Pages/screens viewed, interactions, Android or iOS platform, technical information about navigation in the app. | Matomo Tracker configured in the app. |
| Advertising | Advertising identifiers, ad serving information, display frequency, data required for banners/interstitials to function. | Advertising SDKs, including Google AdMob, depending on the available consent choices and settings. |
| In-app purchases | Product identifier, purchase or restoration status, technical proof required to activate ad removal. | Google Play, App Store and in-app purchase SDK. |
4. Purposes and legal bases
- Providing the weather service: searching for a city, displaying current conditions, forecasts, alerts and weather details. Legal basis: performance of the requested service.
- Remembering your preferences: storing favorite cities, the selected city and certain settings locally. Legal basis: performance of the service and legitimate interest.
- Measuring the audience and improving the app: understanding how screens are used and detecting problems. Legal basis: legitimate interest or consent where required.
- Displaying ads and funding the app: serving ads and measuring how they function. Legal basis: consent where required, or legitimate interest for strictly necessary operations.
- Managing in-app purchases: activating or restoring the ad removal option. Legal basis: performance of the purchase contract.
- Securing the service: preventing errors, abuse, unavailability and unauthorized access. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
5. Location and weather
Météo works through a city search. The current Android/iOS permissions do not declare access to the device's precise location. The data used to display the weather therefore relate to the city you search for or select, rather than to background GPS collection.
When you search for a city, the Symfony backend may send the city, country, language and requested units to the weather provider to retrieve forecasts. Weather responses may be cached on the server for a short period, currently 10 minutes, to improve performance and limit external calls.
6. Recipients and third-party services
Data may be processed by the following services, solely for the purposes described:
- Météo / SmartApps backend: Symfony API, technical configuration, server logs and official download redirection.
- Visual Crossing: weather data provider queried by the backend for the requested city.
- Self-hosted Matomo: audience measurement for the app.
- Google AdMob and advertising SDKs: displaying, limiting and measuring ads.
- Google Play and Apple App Store: app distribution, in-app purchases, purchase restoration and payment management.
Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. In such cases, transfers must be subject to appropriate safeguards, including the contractual and security mechanisms provided by the relevant providers.
7. Retention periods
- Favorite cities and local settings: stored on your device until they are deleted in the app, the data are reset or the app is uninstalled.
- Server weather cache: retained for a short technical period, currently 10 minutes.
- Server logs: retained for a limited period necessary for security, diagnostics and operation of the service, generally up to 12 months.
- Matomo statistics: retained for a limited period necessary for audience measurement and improvement of the service.
- In-app purchases: information useful for proving and restoring a purchase is retained according to store rules and applicable obligations.
8. Your choices in the app and on your phone
- You can delete a favorite city from the city management screen.
- You can limit or reset the advertising identifier in Android or iOS settings.
- You can purchase or restore the ad removal option when that option is available.
- You can delete local data by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it.
9. Your rights
When personal data concerning you are processed, you have, subject to the applicable conditions, rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability and withdrawal of consent.
You can exercise these rights by contacting smartapps@myyahoo.com. To protect accounts and data, reasonable verification of your identity may be requested.
You can also lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority, including the CNIL in France, if you consider that your rights are not being respected.
10. Security
SmartApps implements reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data against unauthorized access, loss, alteration or disclosure. However, no method of transmission or storage is guaranteed to be completely invulnerable.
11. Minors
Météo is not specifically intended for children. If you believe that a minor has provided personal data without appropriate authorization, contact us so that we can review the request and take suitable measures.
12. Changes to the policy
This policy may be updated to reflect changes in the app, providers or legal obligations. The update date shown at the top of the page identifies the version in force.
